Locally Hosted Google Fonts?

  1. Hey there. I use Codestar for EVERYTHING I do for my clients. Thank you for such an awesome bit of code. Lifetime supporter!

I read this article today: https://wptavern.com/wordpress-org-strongly-urges-theme-authors-to-switch-to-locally-hosted-webfonts. I'm sure this is going to be a persistent issue eventually to the point of making the current typography field obsolete for us.

Would it be possible in the future for the typography field to have an option to look for locally hosted fonts of our choosing instead of all online versions? I certainly would not want the entire Google font library to be a part of the Codestar directory, so perhaps a custom name theme directory that it scans?

Thanks again for your awesome code!

    Hi,

Thanks for nice words, I get motivated.

Yes, it looks so. For now, everybody using google fonts api. There is no option for locally hosted fonts, you should use 3th party plugins as said you. I noted this subject and if found a global solution in the future, I will use it sure.

  3. Hi Codestar,
Here's a GDPR-safe alternative that could be added as an option to load instead of Google Fonts: https://fonts.bunny.net/.

Still looking for a locally-hosted option though.

    Thanks!!

  4. Howdy,
New here, first post. For performance i've mainly switched to using a system font stack, which would also negate any of these concerns? https://gist.github.com/don1138/5761014 has a few options...
